Two of our flagship programmes, the Brightlands Startup Challenge and MILESTONES, guide participants through meaningful entrepreneurial development, each in its own unique way.
The Brightlands Startup Challenge unlocks the innovative potential of students across the Limburg region. With its diverse educational landscape, Limburg offers a rich pool of talent from multiple disciplines. The Challenge brings these bright minds together and connects them with a locally rooted yet internationally active partner network, creating the ideal environment for entrepreneurship and hands-on innovation.

Through the Challenge, students are encouraged to tackle real societal and entrepreneurial issues. They develop and refine viable business concepts while strengthening essential skills such as entrepreneurial thinking, creativity, teamwork, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

​By working alongside experts from both academia and industry, participants gain unique exposure to companies and organisations that can support their future career or project ambitions. It is an inspiring programme open to all students in Limburg enrolled in a University of Applied Sciences or higher, fostering cross-faculty cooperation that leads to impactful solutions for today’s social challenges.

MILESTONES
MILESTONES is CEI’s entrepreneurship programme designed to guide student founders and early-stage startups through the critical steps of building a sustainable venture. Where many entrepreneurial journeys stall after the initial idea, MILESTONES provides structure, coaching, and accountability, helping teams progress from concept to real-world validation with clarity and confidence.

Throughout the programme, participants work systematically toward key entrepreneurial milestones: validating their value proposition, understanding their target market, shaping a viable business model, and testing their assumptions with users and experts. They receive tailored guidance from experienced coaches and benefit from CEI’s extensive network of industry partners, researchers, and fellow entrepreneurs.

MILESTONES is especially valuable for students who want to go beyond exploration and actively build a business. By joining, they gain access to practical tools, expert insights, and a supportive community that accelerates development and reduces the typical uncertainty of early-stage entrepreneurship.

Brightlands Startup League
The Brightlands Startup League is the regional startup ecosystem that connects entrepreneurship, innovation, and talent development across the Brightlands campuses and the Limburg region. It brings together educational institutions, startups, scale-ups, corporates, investors, and public partners to support entrepreneurial growth at every stage.
The League functions as a collaborative platform in which programmes, initiatives, and organisations are aligned to strengthen the regional innovation landscape. CEI is an active part of the Brightlands Startup League, contributing through its entrepreneurship programmes such as the Brightlands Startup Challenge and MILESTONES. Through this connection, CEI’s participants gain access to a broader network of expertise, facilities, and opportunities within the Brightlands ecosystem.
